We invite young artists to join us after school on Fridays to develop their artistic expression, gain skills in hands-on workshops in the studio, and engage with our exhibitions through in-gallery activities and discussions. Each month will focus on a different medium and theme, allowing students to explore the featured medium in depth over the course of the month.

PAINTING AND MIXED MEDIA - Unconventional Portraiture  
October 7, 14, 28

Exploring artist Alicia Henry’s unique approach to portraiture, students will work with paint, pastels, and a variety of other materials on fabric and paper to create mixed media artworks. 

DRAWING & MARK MAKING – Figures & Line
November 4, 18, 25

November will focus on drawing and mark making, and the possibilities different materials allow. Taking inspiration from Alicia Henry: Witnessing, students will learn about how and why artists use sketchbooks and expand their drawing skills through experimentation with a variety of different drawing materials and substrates. 

TEXTILES – Shapes and Forms 
December 2, 9, 16

In December, students will explore textile art and create their own soft sculptures using basic hand stitching and recycled materials. Inspired by shapes and materials in Alicia Henry: Witnessing, students will learn how to transform their two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional fabric sculptures.

It is a condition of participation in any activity or program provided by or on behalf of the Kamloops Art Gallery, its agents, employees, volunteers and/or Board of Directors that the participant does so at his or her own risk and that the Kamloops Art Gallery and its representatives are not liable for any loss, damage or injury resulting from or in connection with such participation.  

In consideration of the Board of Trustees of the Kamloops Art Gallery, its staff and/or volunteers accepting the above named child as a participant in the art class listed above, I (the parent/legal guardian of the child), hereby release the Board of Trustees of the Kamloops Art Gallery, its staff and/or volunteers (collectively, the Gallery) of and from all claims I or my legal representative may have against the Gallery. 

I save and except for any and all claims, I or my legal representative may have against the Gallery, arising out of the negligence of the Gallery. I further covenant and agree to indemnify and hold the Gallery harmless from all claims by a third party which the Gallery may bear arising out of the participation by the child/children in the above art class.


Participant Cancellation Policy 

Participants will receive a 75% refund of tuition if a request to withdraw is received by the Kamloops Art Gallery no later than 7 days prior to the first day of the course. 

Request to withdraw from a course less than 7 days prior to the first class session will not be eligible for tuition refunds. If you register for a class or workshop last minute (within 1 week of the class), this cancellation policy still applies. 

Summer camp class cancellations require a minimum of 2 weeks notice prior to the first day of camp to be eligible for a partial tuition refund.

Kamloops Art Gallery Course Cancellation Policy 

Occasionally the Kamloops Art Gallery may find it necessary to cancel a course or workshop due to low enrollment or other scheduling conflicts. If this occurs, registered students will be contacted and allowed to transfer to another class or be refunded the full course tuition and any additional fees.
