After purchasing a Kintsugi and Maki-e kit, do not forgot the broken ceramic part! Kintsugi is a pottery repair method that honours the artifact’s unique history by emphasizing, and not hiding, the break. After the repair is completed, gold is often used to highlight the finished repair using Maki-e. The deep blues and whites of this tea cup illuminate the gold from the kintsugi and maki-e process. re re-broken so you do not have to put yourself at risk.
The kitsugi and maki-e art form come to Bonner’s attention 20 years ago when he was studying Japanese ceramics. This initial introduction led to a lifelong pursuit of understanding the origin of Kintsugi and how this technique both developed and is performed today.
