Published by the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre in Burnaby, B.C., Changing Tides chronicles more than 30 stories of Japanese Canadian fishermen and their families on the B.C. coast. Stories collected range from before the Second World War to the present day. With conversational recollections to individual reflections, these are stories of hardship, determination and triumph, with personal perspectives on injustices, discrimination and tales of resiliency and perseverance. Above all, they illustrate the enduring bonds of family, community and culture. Accompanied by family photographs, these stories capture a fading way of life. They are a tribute to the Nikkei fishermen and their contributions to the fishing industry, to the communities where they lived and to Canada’s rich multicultural heritage. Dedicated to the pioneering Japanese immigrant fishermen, the book is comprised of six chapters titled in sequence as: Before the War, The Internment, Resettlement, Boat Builders, The Post-war Era, and After the Mifflin Plan. Edited by Kotaro Hayashi, Fumio “Frank” Kanno, Henry Tanaka and Jim Tanaka.

Please note that you will be responsible for return shipping costs. Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for any packages that are lost or damaged in transit. To qualify for a full or partial refund (minus shipping charges), the item must be unused, unopened, and in its original, re-sellable condition, with all packaging materials included. Additionally, the original sales receipt must be provided with your return.
